Dear Parents

 

After  three postponements, we at long last managed to hold our Inter-house athletics meeting on Wednesday.

 

Congratulations to all the athletes who ran so well in the inter-house athletics, despite a still “water-logged” field.  Congratulations to VENUS which was the winning team, 2nd was MARS and 3rd JUPITER.  Well done to JUPITER for winning the Spirit Trophy.

 

Thank you to the parents who came along to support the athletes.  Your enthusiasm is appreciated.

A reminder that the TRAVELLING BOOKSHOP will be visiting our school on Monday, 8 February from 10:30 – 15:30 and Tuesday, 9 February from 09:30 – 14:30.  All welcome to come along and purchase books.   Books for all ages at reasonable prices will be on sale.

We are appealing to a parent from our Hindu or Muslim Community to offer their services to come and give our Hindu and Muslim children a religious lesson every Monday and Tuesday morning from 08:00 – 08:30 during our assembly time.

Bible Club:

All Grade 1,2 and 3 learners interested in joining the Bible Club, please come along to

Mrs Scholtz’s class, (New classroom), on Tuesday afternoons from 13:00 – 14:00

 

Touch Rugby: (Gr 7 only)

Gr 7 Touch Rugby practices have begun.  Practices are on Tuesdays and Thursdays:  14:00 – 15:30.  All Gr 7’s, boys and girls,  are welcome to try out, matches will commence on Friday, 5 February 2010.  Waterstone is hosting.

Athletics:

Training will take place on Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 14:00 – 15:00.

All athletes are welcome.  Please note that training ends at 15:00 and no longer at 15:30.

All athletes running in the Brackenhurst Primary school team have received a letter.  Inter-schools will be held at Glenview Primary on Tuesday, 16 February 2010 during school time.

Physical Education Uniform:

The Physical Education Uniform is on sale before school, outside the hall, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 07:30 – 08:00.  Please note that this kit is compulsory for all learners for P.E. classes.  They may come to school dressed in their P.E. kit on the days they have P.E. at school.  Only the CORRECT P.E. kit may be worn to school.  Please note that learners must wear socks and takkies with this uniform.  No other shoes are permitted.

Athletics Uniform:

The athletics kit will also be sold outside the hall on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 07:30 – 08:00.  This is only needed by the learners who qualify to run as part of the school team.

Girls Soccer:

Rovers Football Club is starting a girls soccer team to participate in the league.  Practices commence on 2 February and will be held every Tuesday and Thursday.  Age groups are from U/10 – U/14.  Please contact Martin Royle on 083 448 5533 for more information.

Soccer:

Practice for U/13 Grade 7 soccer boys will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays  from 14:00 – 15:30. 

This is for a separate league hosted by Encochoyini Primary school.  It is seven a side soccer.

 

Tennis:

Tennis practices are on MONDAYS.  The times are as follows:

            Grade 1           13:05 – 13:30

            Grade 2           13:30 – 14:00

            Grade 3-7        14:00 – 14:30

            School team    14:30 – 15:00

All are welcome.

 

Coaching:

Any parent interested in coaching netball or soccer in the second term, please forward your name to Mrs Brown in the front office as soon as possible, as we would like to commence practices as soon as possible.

 

Chess Club:

Chess Club for learners, Grades 5 – 7, will be on Mondays from 15:30 – 16:30 in Room G31, with Mr Deere-Jones. 

 

Chess Club for learners, Grades 1 – 4, will be on Tuesdays from 14:00 – 14:30 in Room G31, with Mrs Zevenster.

Hockey Academy:

The hockey academy will commence on Friday, 5 February 2010.  The cost will be R100,00 per month and practices will be on Friday afternoons from 14:00 – 16:00.  All welcome.

L-10 Kids Group:

All Gr 6 and 7 learners interested in joining the L-10 Kids Christian Group are welcome to come along.  Practices take place in the school hall every Tuesday afternoon from 14:30 – 15:30.

Corrective Mathematics:

Corrective Mathematics lessons for Grade 6 learners will take place every Tuesday afternoon from 14:00 to 14:45 in Room C33.

 

Corrective Mathematics lessons for Grade 7 learners will take place every Tuesday afternoon from 14:00 to 14:45 in the Multi-Purpose Room, commencing on Tuesday 2 February.

At the Grade 1 Information Morning, some parents indicated that they would be interested in purchasing some of the THRASS Resources for use at home to assist their children with homework.

Used Printer Cartridges:

We will be collecting used printer cartridges for recycling purposes, in conjunction with “My School”.  When you replace your printer cartridge, please send the old one in with your child, as we will receive a cash incentive for collecting them.  If you are able to collect old cartridges at work please send these in as well.

“Bling-Girls” Jewellery:

“Bling-Girls” will be at our school every Friday until Valentine’s Day, at first break selling their wonderful range of jewellery.    They will also be at school every day at first break selling jewellery in the week 8 – 12 February.

My School Card:

If you do not have a MY SCHOOL CARD, application forms are available at the office.  It costs you nothing.  Everytime you shop at Woolworths or any of the stores linked to MY SCHOOL CARD, make sure you have your card swiped.  The school then receives a monthly rebate.

Remember you are not limited to one card per family, you can apply for more for aunts, uncles, etc.  Ensure, when completing the application form that you specify it is to be linked to BRACKENHURST PRIMARY SCHOOL.

We will be selling a variety of Valentine’s Day gifts ranging in price from R3 to R30, every 1st break from Monday 8 February to Friday 12 February.  Please support our Grade 7 fundraising efforts.

SPCA:This year we will be helping our four-legged friends, awaiting homes at the SPCA.  This term we will be collecting old newspapers and cat and dog food.  All donations will be greatly appreciated and can be given to Miss Agnew, Room C48.

J29 Safehouse:

This term we will be collecting coins for J29 Safehouse.  Please send spare change to Ms Pheiffer (Room M1).

 

Please note that a maximum of 10 roses will be awarded per term for participation in community outreach projects so please do not feel pressurized to buy items to ensure that your child is awarded “Roses.’

Rectangular Callout: WORLD CUP SOCCER CIVVIES
 

 

 


On the last Friday of every month from January – June, learners may wear a pair of jeans or shorts and a soccer jersey of any of the countries participating in the FIFA 2010 World Cup at a cost of R5,00 per civvies day.  Please note that this is not a general civvies day so no other civvies may be worn. English Premiership soccer jerseys such as Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool may not be worn. 

 

The remaining civvies days will be held on the following dates:

 

·         26 February

·         19 March (week before break up day)

·         30 April

·         28 May

·         4 June (week before break up day)

Please ensure that your child’s uniform is clearly marked with his/her name and surname.  Unmarked school uniform items will be “recycled” into the Second Hand Clothing Shop after two weeks.  Lost property can be found under the stairwell outside Room C14.
